Growing your gift to create new possibilities.
DTK1234 is a Design Thinking module designed for first year students at the National University of Singapore (NUS).
Through hands-on experiences and reflective learning, students practice the skills and mindsets to unlock their creative potential and reframe problems as opportunities for human-centered design.
We believe that
Design Thinking gives people the framework to unpack difficult problems, and the tools to take action.
It empowers them to make meaning of their experiences and challenges, with the means to remake them.
Hear from our students!
Hear what students have to say after taking our module!
AY21/22 Semester 1
“It has made me realise my passion for ideation and I am planning to take a minor in innovation and design.”
AY22/23 Semester 1
“We were encouraged not to fear the lack of creativity, since there are systematic approaches to go about designing, which was very assuring and new to me at the same time.”
AY22/23 Semester 2
“It uses concise, accessible videos to explain and demonstrate ideas and concepts, making it easy for non-design students to grasp and experiment.”
Learning by Design
While drawing on Design Thinking as a personal creative skillset, we enable students to value the impact of design in affording people the opportunity and privilege to shape the world that they, and others, inhabit.
1
Understanding the significant role of design in shaping everyday life.
2
Appreciating design thinking as a human-centric innovation process driven by creativity in an iterative cycle.
Learning to uncover root issues and reframe problems to generate design interventions & multiple entry points with one’s ideas.
3
4
Learning to approach problems from users’ perspective, developing empathy towards the complexity of human needs & contexts.
6
5
Grasping the significance of making prototypes as an iterative and reflective process.
Learning to evaluate prototypes in context, observe user behaviour, and devise an action plan for improvement.
7
Learning to identify what a well-designed solution means from a design perspective.
